How do you turn a collection of numbers into something people can use? UC3M’s Data Science and Engineering degree is an option for students who enjoy mathematics, coding and investigating questions through evidence. It is taught entirely in English at the Leganés campus.

What you will explore
The curriculum combines mathematics, statistics, computing and telecommunications. Early subjects include programming, probability, calculus and linear algebra, before progressing to areas such as statistical learning, databases and machine learning. UC3M introduced a revised study plan in 2025; use the current plan when exploring the course.
One useful way to test your interest is to try a small data project before applying. Choose a question, find a dataset and see whether you enjoy cleaning it, exploring patterns and explaining what you found. The satisfaction often comes from the investigation as much as the final answer.
Who might enjoy this degree?
UC3M highlights a strong mathematical background and English at B2 level. You may particularly enjoy this route if you like both writing code and explaining why a result makes sense. It is worth comparing the balance of computing and mathematics with other data-related courses on your shortlist.
Tuition and living costs
The figures above come from UC3M’s 2026/27 standard fee table and non-EU fee table. Fee eligibility depends on your circumstances; ask admissions which category applies.
For housing, compare the commute to Leganés alongside the rent. Leave room in your budget for food, transport and the months outside teaching term. Our Spain study guide helps you plan the wider costs.
