Dubai has international schools with residential provision, but most international-school listings are not boarding-school listings. Start with schools that explicitly describe a residence and a boarding programme, then compare the educational and everyday experience.
Repton Dubai and Swiss International Scientific School Dubai publish boarding information. The right choice depends on your child’s age, preferred curriculum, languages and comfort with living away from home.
Repton Dubai
Repton’s boarding page describes residential houses, supervised preparation time, academic support and evening or weekend activities. Ask admissions for the current boarding-entry ages and the course available in your child’s year. The school’s general admissions age range covers day pupils too and should not be treated as the residence’s age range.
On a visit, explore both lessons and residential life. Ask how a new boarder joins activities, where they study and how staff communicate with families.
Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
SISD’s current boarding guidance states that boarding starts in Grade 6 and continues through Grade 12. It describes full boarding, weekly boarding from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon, and space-dependent flexi-boarding for enrolled students. Full boarders return home for holidays.
Discuss the appropriate academic and language pathway alongside the residence. A younger child’s needs will differ from those of a teenager preparing for final examinations.
Compare an ordinary week
Ask for a timetable showing school, homework, activities, meals and free time. Find out how many pupils remain at weekends and what they do. A long list of Dubai attractions does not explain the experience of an ordinary Saturday during a busy school term.
Discuss privacy, room sharing, communication with home and how independence changes with age. The most useful answers are specific enough for your child to imagine themselves living there.
Budget for tuition and residence together
Request an itemised quote in UAE dirhams for the intended academic year. Establish whether boarding charges include tuition, meals, laundry, activities and transfers. Add enrolment, deposits, examinations, devices, insurance and travel as applicable.
Do not compare a younger day pupil’s tuition with a senior boarder’s full package. Ask when payments are due and how changes or withdrawal are handled. International families should also ask which travel and residence arrangements the school helps coordinate.
Learning and support
Share current reports, language strengths and learning needs with admissions. Ask how teachers and boarding staff communicate when a student needs help. Support after lessons can be valuable, but it should complement appropriate classroom teaching rather than substitute for it.
Let the student explain their interests, whether sport, design, music, science or something else. Ask which activities are genuinely available in the intended year and whether they carry additional costs.
Is boarding the right arrangement?
Weekly boarding can work for a family based within travelling distance, while full boarding may suit an overseas family. Neither arrangement automatically includes every school holiday. Put the residential calendar next to your own before committing.
Involve your child throughout the decision. A campus visit, a conversation with residential staff and a clear understanding of everyday routines are more useful than choosing by a prestige claim. For comparisons elsewhere, explore 西班牙, 日本 和 Europe.
