Good data work involves more than choosing an algorithm. UPC’s Master’s in Data Science combines the organisation of data with the methods used to analyse it, offering time to develop both areas through a two-year programme in Barcelona.

What you will explore
Topics include databases, statistical modelling, machine learning and large-scale data management. The curriculum also includes choices related to visualisation and the ethics of data science, and finishes with a 30-credit master’s thesis.
FIB describes hands-on learning with structured and unstructured data, including possible applications such as health, fraud detection and sensor analysis. If you already enjoy programming or mathematics, consider which real-world questions you would like those skills to help answer.
Who is it for?
The programme welcomes backgrounds with a strong foundation in computing and mathematics, and requires evidence of B2 English. FIB identifies computing, mathematics and suitably quantitative engineering degrees among the recommended routes.
Review the first-semester modules against what you have studied before. Being comfortable with the foundations can give you more freedom to explore unfamiliar applications and ambitious project ideas.
Time and budget
FIB indicates a full-time workload of roughly 20 hours of classes and 20 hours of independent work per week. Plan your finances around having time to study.
The tuition figures above follow UPC’s 2026/27 schedule; the full-course estimates are indicative and exclude living costs. Budget separately for two years in Barcelona.
Use our Guida pentru Barcelona to explore housing and transport. FIB is at Campus Nord, so compare journeys there before choosing a neighbourhood.
Applying and next intake
The published intake starts in September. Pre-enrolment was closed when checked on 15 October 2026. The official course page provides admissions requirements and a form for asking about the next round.
