Studying in Israel: English-Taught Courses and Practical Planning

Israel offers English-taught degrees and international study opportunities in subjects ranging from the humanities and music to science, technology and business. A useful study plan begins with the exact programme, its current delivery arrangements and the support available to international students.

Travel context, checked 25 October 2026: the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office advises against travel to specified areas and warns of continuing regional tensions and possible disruption. Advice differs by location and can change quickly. Check your own government’s guidance, the university’s latest information and your insurance conditions before committing to travel.

English-taught undergraduate study

Tel Aviv University lists English-taught undergraduate routes including Liberal Arts, Management and Liberal Arts, music and a dual-degree Liberal Arts pathway with Columbia University. The dual route includes study in two countries, so its budget and travel planning differ from a degree completed entirely in Israel.

The same university also describes integration tracks that begin in English and later move into Hebrew. These should not be confused with programmes taught in English throughout. Read the language information for the exact route and applicant category.

Master’s study and research

Tel Aviv’s degree directory includes English-language postgraduate options across several disciplines. At the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Rothberg International School’s MA in Jewish Studies is an example of a two-year English-taught programme.

Compare taught and research routes through the work you would do: seminars, independent projects, laboratory work or a thesis. Hebrew University’s graduate-study guidance also notes that supplementary undergraduate study can require Hebrew even when the intended master’s is in English.

교육비 및 생활비

Get the fee for the actual programme and entry year. Establish whether it is quoted per year, semester or whole course, and in which currency. Add housing, food, transport, insurance, study materials, travel and an allowance for unexpected changes.

Ask about university housing availability and contract dates rather than assuming accommodation is guaranteed with an offer. A realistic budget should not depend on finding a job after arrival. If a scholarship is available, check its amount, duration and whether it covers living costs as well as tuition.

Student visas and work

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ A/2 student visa guidance states that recipients are not permitted to work. Use the Israeli mission responsible for your place of residence for your own application instructions. Do not assume that an internship or unpaid role is automatically permitted simply because it is connected with your studies.

Confirm the experience for your intake

Ask the university whether classes, practical work and student services are operating as described for your dates. Discuss any online or hybrid arrangements, what happens if travel is disrupted and how deferral or refunds work. For a research degree, confirm access to the facilities and supervision your project needs.

These questions allow you to plan the learning experience realistically. A programme may be academically attractive while its timing or delivery is unsuitable for your current circumstances.

Life beyond the classroom

Language learning, student societies and working with classmates from different backgrounds can deepen the experience. Basic Hebrew can help with daily life even where the course itself is in English. Choose activities that fit your interests and the university’s current arrangements.

Begin with a short programme shortlist, compare the full budget and speak directly with international admissions. You can also explore Hebrew and Yiddish, our programme directory and other destination guides before deciding.
