Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF)

Universitat Pompeu Fabra offers very different ways to explore ideas in Barcelona. The programmes featured here connect social questions with research methods, and musical curiosity with computing. Both are taught in English, but the experience you build will depend on the questions you choose to investigate.

Two directions for postgraduate study

The Master’s in Governance brings together public policy, democracy and migration, with a substantial individual thesis. Sound and Music Computing combines technical study with the investigation of audio and musical experience, drawing on the university’s Music Technology Group.

When comparing these courses with alternatives, spend time looking at project topics and teaching methods. A year can become much more rewarding when the work connects with something you already want to understand, make or improve.

Finding your place in Barcelona

The Department of Political and Social Sciences is based at Ciutadella campus. Sound and Music Computing is based at Poblenou campus. Check the programme timetable before choosing accommodation; two courses in the same city do not necessarily mean the same daily journey.

Our Barcelona student guide covers the practical side of moving to the city. For the wider planning picture, read our Spain guide.
