The learning experience

The course is taught in English and delivered face to face. Its curriculum includes application security, data protection, malware and network security, with a 12-credit master’s thesis. FIB describes a practical approach, covering risk analysis, security built into system design and responses to attacks.

For someone who enjoys investigating how things work, this can be an engaging area to explore. When comparing programmes, ask what kinds of lab exercises students complete and how projects develop from an initial question to a tested solution. Those details help you picture the work behind the course title.

Entry background

UPC recommends computing and telecommunications-related degrees and requires B2 English. Other backgrounds may be considered individually, sometimes with additional bridging study. Use the programme’s admissions section to see how your existing knowledge fits.

Fees and living in Barcelona

The figures above use UPC’s 2026/27 fee schedule. Its total estimates include charges beyond tuition; accommodation and living expenses remain separate.

A one-year course still needs a full-year budget. Housing contracts, the final project and your arrival date may extend your stay beyond classroom teaching. Our Guía de Barcelona covers neighbourhoods, commuting and everyday costs.

Next intake

The published start month is September. On our review date, UPC showed pre-enrolment as closed, so use its course enquiry form to ask about the next round rather than assuming places are currently open.
